How to cook climbing fish- gourami-perch-Koi Fish- with Basella Alba-Poi stick


Koi or Climbing Perch Fish not actually a perch, this fish is a member of family Anabantidae (Climbing gouramies – a different family from Gouramies proper). Common Climbing Perch – Koi ( Anabas testudineus) fishes are founded in India. This recipe is a very popular “Koi Fish” recipe in tasty, thick, spicy based recipe, which can be taken with Plain Rice as Lunch or dinner.   • 250 gm climbing fish/ gourami/ perch (Koi Fish).
  • 5 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 2 onions chopped
  • 2 inches ginger (adrak) chopped
  • ½ tablespoon turmeric (haldi) powder
  • ½ tablespoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 3 dry red chillies
  • 1 bay leaf (Tej Patta)
  • 7-8 garlic cloves (lehsun)
  • 2 potatoes (aloo) remove the skin and cut length wise medium pieces
  • 9-10 cut pieces vaallhi /Poi Spinach/ Basella Alba (Poi saga) stick without leaves
  • Salt to taste
Instructions
  1. Clean and wash the perch (koi) fish perfectly and marinate the fish with turmeric (haldi) powder and salt well.
  2. Heat the pan with 2-3 table spoon cooking oil and fry all marinated fish pieces on both sides well to crisp. Keep aside all fried fish pieces.
  3. Heat again the pan with ½ tablespoon cooing oil, add potatoes (aloo) cut pieces, Basella Alba (Poi saga) stick pieces, little turmeric (haldi) powder and salt to taste. Fry it for 1 min.
  4. Then add little bit water in the pan and cover it with a lid. Cook on low flame for 2-3 mins till boiled well. Transfer it to a plate and keep aside.
  5. Grind garlic cloves (lehsun), half of the onions chopped, bay leaf (Tej Patta), dry red chillies, ginger (adrak) chopped in a smooth mixer grinder to prepare a fine masala paste.
  6. Heat 2 tablespoon cooking oil and add rest half of the onions chopped. Stir it till to golden brown
  7. Add grinded smooth masala paste into it and mix it well. Cook it for 1 min.
  8. Add tomatoes chopped and salt to taste. Mix it well and cover it for 2 mins on low flame.
  9. Add boiled potatoes and Basella Alba (Poee) stick pieces. Stir it.
  10. Add water as per your gravy thickness
  11. Add fried climbing fish/ gourami/ perch (Koi Fish) in the pan. Cook it for 1-2 mins.
  12. Koi Fish with Basella Alba (Poee) stick recipe is ready to serve in lunch or dinner with steamed rice.
